The problem should be possible to counteract. But it will take new thinking and brave decisions from the site administrator. The rating system must be changed. One possible way would be to let players earn rating based on the number of moves they use for victory. Less moves earn more rating points than more moves. So it will pay off rating wise to "kill" your opponent with few moves. And higher rated players would seek to challenge lower rated ones preferably. Chess traps will get a boost! Lots of fun! Who will end up with the higher ratings? Players with courage and imagination. Who will earn less? Program players (especially those who play each other in endless marginal games). Does it sound interesting?

It is with great sadness that i will no longer be continuing my subscription with Chessworld.

There is a serious problem which has become very obvious and increasingly widespread. Many chess players on this site can no longer resist the urge to use their chess programs in the pursuit of a higher chess rating. I do not need to cite examples or offer up evidence because i am a good chess player who has played chess for over 30 years and i just know that players use chess programs on this site. i even managed to get one player to admit it!.

This problem ruins online correspondence chess in my view because i no longer play the player but the program and i can do that with my own chess program if i choose without a yearly fee.

I can not see how chess sites are going to prevent this practice so i feel that this type of online chess is on the way out and only online lightning and speed chess will prevail.

I would like to add that i am aware that there are chess players out there who do not use programs and i would love to hear their views but more so, the views of program users if they are brave enough to speak out.
