Jamaica is finalising plans to host the sixth staging of the Carifta Chess Championship between April 13 and 18 in Kingston. President of the Jamaica Chess Federation Ian Wilkinson on Monday confirmed that more than a hand full of nation's including Jamaica have already confirmed their participation.

“Everything is in place so far; we have a venue in place which is the Knutsford Court Hotel and we expect to use three conference rooms there. So far six countries have registered and we are also hoping to have the US Virgin Islands and Guyana on board because registration is still possible up to the end of March,” said Wilkinson. The countries registered so far are Aruba, Curacao, Bahamas, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago and hosts Jamaica.

Jamaica, which won the bid to host the regional championship at the International Chess Congress in Baku last September, will be staging the event for the second time since 2013.

Each Carifta member federation has the right to enter teams in the three categories, Under-12, Under-16 and Under-20 respectively.

Approximately 220 players have already been registered with another three teams expressing interest to register before the late registration deadline of March 31.
