Reading elsewhere on a forum discovered this little ditto in regard to postal chess and thought it was worth sharing.

"What one could do is have an envelope with two windows, one on the front as you described, and a similar card system for the return address on the back. White makes the first move as normal with a new stamp and then Black simply writes "Not at this address, return to sender." on the back and pops the envelope with his address showing on the front card and white's in the return address and it should all work on one stamp."

Sounds worth trying.

I would simply do as they used to do in the good old days of CC postal chess and eliminate ratings per se to prevent the annoyance.

Controversial and doesn't eliminate resignations, however a change of mind leads to whether you choose to move on from your struggles and enjoy life or waddle in your misery, life will continue.

At one time unrated tournaments were created regularly, but due to supererogatory resignations, the creation of those popular games seems to have ceased.

If you visit the Tournament home page you should find an option to view the enrolment log.

Looking at your details, and looking at KO Tournament #276494 I can see, in the column headed ER that your rating at the time of enrolment was 1658

Of course, ratings are volatile and go up or down at any time; for that reason the ER is used for the Tournament.

Revising the enrolment list as and when current ratings change would quite impractical as it would mean that, in many instances, the Tournament would be paired.

Is this helpful to you?

[Quote from: "ketchuplover"]When you create games, simuls, and tourneys please honor the rating range you have set.

Here is the flip side of that, in regards to tournaments.

Players who create tournaments with a max rating very close to their own rating. Within a very short period of time, their rating is higher than their own tournament.

I don't call that honest.

Perhaps there should be something indicating their rating at the time the tourney was created,or some way to automatically increase the upper rating to match theirs.

It is rightly or wrongly from a messing others about point of view the choice of your opponent to resign a game. Reasons can be be many from bad game load management, change in personal circumstances, to simply bad etiquette and not bothered.

If you just glance back over the guys recent games history you will see he has done it a few times. No compensation for a wasted pairing on your part but the guy has a much lower rating than you and has never been over 1400 since joining. Likely he has just not taken the time to set a maximum opponent level and just dumps games from much higher rated players!

Maybe drop him a message and explain the irritation and explain how he can set a max opponent level.

I entered a simul with a top rating of 3500. The creator was rated lower than me and resigned without making any moves.

Tournaments and the like can take a while to fill up, meaning a person's enrolment rating might increase beyond the rating range while waiting for the tournament to commence. (Hardly their fault).

The system already prevents someone from joining if their rating exceeds the set limits, so it is not a case of a site member not honoring the rating range. (Which renders this thread rather redundant).
