Wow ketchuplover, sorry to go off topic but would you be the same one who was a member of Plastic Bishop.com many moons ago?

Hey no offence intended my friend. My post was not aimed at you. Simply on the same hymn sheet as KC on this one.

My real point was that if hear Sir Tim Berers-Lee speak many are now pushing (and more against) getting the net back in control of the user over the corps. Truth is it will never happen in my lifetime. But self sufficient sites like CW are key to making that first tiny step toward making a start

Who is laughing at invasion of privacy? Who's attacking chessworld? My "point" was that the OP was not endorsing Alexa and the Alexa stat is clearly silly. The post is as chess related as many others. I found Kingscrusher's post about Alexa interesting (and was familiar with some of its evils). However, we're all grown ups. Why moderate when it's not necessary? I'm a big fan of free speech. Sorry to offend 😊

PS, I love chessworld.

[Quote from: "LeHorla"]LOL. If there was ever a post that didn't need to be moderated, it's this one.

There is nothing really that funny at selling out other people's privacy through either encouraging Alex or serving tonnes of Adverts. Both seem to have no ethics and we never have done banner advertising on this site either.

Here are some relevant videos about privacy:

I do not think the majority of users of CW realise how very very luck you are to play on a site like this for free/or minimal minimal minimal cost.

Privacy issues aside that is something for the individual to research and decide but I will add as someone relatively knowledgeable on this KC is 200% correct.

Instead of maybe logging on and just making yours moves. Take a 'really really' good look around. See what you get. Yes there are other sites using freeware etc and I know full well KC is a fan. But they still profit by having the likes of KC put time into videos links etc etc.

Wake Up people. This site after all these years is still predominantly kept open for the members.

FFS it's Christmas.
Get someone to buy you a CW membership for the year. It's no more than a decent pair of socks these days anyway.

And for those who won't as said. Watch your personal info very carefully, and enjoy the constant invasion of your fun by the sponser.

Get your hands in your pockets. Or you will lose it one day.

Regarding Alexa:

It is total nonsense and they do not have any site data and we will never pass them any site data.

They represent an invasion of privacy which is completely unacceptable in modern times. To get high on Alexa, it requires people to install the Alexa Toolbar which collects data.

Please do not post about that site - Alexa has no credibility unless a site actively partners with them to give them data which we have no intention to do so EVER.

One check you can do to show the meaningless of the data is see the Audience Geography map - it indicates only Russia - and no one at all from the UK it seems. THat just shows how it has no data about the site whatsoever.

Sorry but can we stick to chess related discussions and not mention fake sites that encourage damaging people's privacy.

Cheers, K
