I thought you needed Java to run it. Chrome,Edge, and Firefox don't support Java.

Thanks for the information, I didn't know it. I installed the app on my linux desktop without any problems, the interface looks clean and nice. There is only 100 games going.

FIDE now has (since 2014) its own commercial internet server, FIDE online arena. I have just joined paying the subscription fee. The advantage is that it gives official FIDE ratings by playing online chess and even titles which are aimed at the amateur chess player for whom the usual FIDE titles are out of reach. Also it is inconvenient for me to attend a chess club frequently to play club chess and I prefer to play online for which now an official rating can be obtained from FIDE.

Has anyone else joined this? The problem is that not many players are on the site at any particular time and there are far fewer tournaments than other free sites. As I write there are 405 players online in the FIDE arena. The interface of FIDE online arena is OK and I have had no problems with it so far after 2 days of playing.
