Hi, there,

I always treated each game as a puzzle, which required study until its secrets were unlocked. Once I had a feeling for what worked and what did not, then themes fell into place.

There was one exception, when a player rated far lower than I was reached an apparently unbreakable position. I tried the effect of making moves which did not weaken mine and had no effect upon the position going forward. I watched him weaken his to the point where I had a beautiful exchange sacrifice in the near future. A move or two short of the sacrifice, he blundered the game away and I won ugly.

Self-confidence is very important. If you don’t think you can win, you will take cowardly decisions in the crucial moments, out of sheer respect for your opponent. You see the opportunity but also greater limitations than you should. I have always believed in what I do on the chessboard, even when I had no objective reason to. It is better to overestimate your prospects than underestimate them. - Magnus Carlsen

Check your opponent's bag first before he checks yours to see what is being pulled out and then pull your opponent's legs before he does that with yours always keeping an eye on referee

A problem I have in many games, against opponents with a similar rating to me, is: How do I actually win this game!

I have a nice solid position - king reasonably safe, pawns well connected, knights well placed - but to win the game, I have to pull something special out of the bag, before my opponent does!

It's not easy!
