I once plaid a variant of chess--I forget its name--where one rolled a dice to determine what piece to move. (1=P, 2=N, 3=B, 4=R, 5=Q, 6=K). Made the game more like war--part skill and part luck. I prefer regular chess. Then again, I roll a lot of 6's.

There are already a multitude of variations of the game out there, and none of them has surpassed modern chess yet. So I don't see why you would have to make any changes.

Have you ever tried 'fairy chess'? It is a nice change of pace every now and then.

The 'en passant' rule is (I believe) the latest in a large number of additions/improvements to the game of chess.

Is this the final addition/improvement, though? Is chess now perfect just as it is? It might well be! ...

... Or is there another possible addition to the rules that might make chess an even more exciting and challenging game?
