Play the computer update

Hi all

The Improve menu ... Play the computer now has been changed to a JavaScript based one.

Java (VERY different to JavaScript) has had a number of issues over the recent years and unfortunately requires quite a technical installation just to allow it to work now on most browsers, often having to adjust the security levels.

The JavaScript version now also has a Save PGN which will work in most browsers except unfortunately IE. You may find this useful for sharing your games against the computer.

Please try it out if you have time. I personally find it a little bit of fun and relaxation and for me, relatively easy to beat.

Feedback welcome

We provide these "chess computers" as a service to our Members.

They are provided, and used with permission, by third parties. As such we have no control over the design and functionality of the software.

I wish the easy ChessWorld and Garbo ChessWorld computers would recognise draws but they don't seem to. This applies to all draw types; stalemate, 3 fold repetition and insufficient material and 50 moves without checkmate, pawn move or captures. Nor is there a claim draw button unlike human vs human chess.

Yes apparently there are some Javascript issues in IE 8 - IE10 is faster and better security and would I assume resolve the issue. Thanks for letting me know anyway.

[Quote from: "kingscrusher"] There is a harder option now which has a kind of level of thoughts used. The link for this is on the top left now.

Clicking the "Hard Javascript Opponent" link doesn't work for me. The screen goes blank.

It could have something to do with my browser maybe? I'm using IE 8 at this time.

That is odd - it works even on iPad

Maybe try control - refresh. Please try in chrome or Firefox if you can.

Overall, I like it. The size of the board is good.

I'm surprised that you can't adjust the difficulty level though.

The pop up message, with every move, "Moving now..." is a bit annoying.

Okay thanks for the feedback.

It is pretty weak, so different levels would not really change it much, except spend longer on each move.
