Online Chess Welcome Pack

To get the maximum enjoyment from your ChessWorld experience please take a little time to read your Welcome Pack. This guide is designed to help you get started, discover site features, and make the most of your time on ChessWorld.net.

Welcome!

As a Guest Member you can play up to five individual games at any time (games played in Guest Tournaments do not count against that limit). Joining a 4-player All-play-All Guest Tournament gives you six games, three with each colour. See Using ChessWorld and Playing in your first Tournament below for details.

As a Full Member you can play unlimited games, join more Tournaments and Teams, and access all features. Check subscription rates and payment methods via My Stuff ... My Subscription.

What can ChessWorld offer you?

ChessWorld encourages thoughtful and relaxed play with opponents worldwide. Whether you’re a beginner or a grandmaster, you’ll find the right challenge. Choose individual games or multi-player tournaments with flexible time limits (1 to 15 days per move).

My Welcomer

Every new member is assigned a Welcomer who challenges you to one of your first games and guides you through ChessWorld’s features. Your Welcomer’s name appears on your Homepage under Referrer/Welcomer. You can message them directly via their homepage.

If you’re unhappy with your Welcomer, click Suggest a Welcomer on your Welcome page. When you become a Full Member, your Welcomer receives two free months of membership as a reward for helping you.

Using ChessWorld

ChessWorld is easy to navigate. Roll your mouse over the menubar to see options. The ChessWorld logo at the top left always takes you back to the playing area. Forums are also available, including Newbies, Advanced Help, Site Improvements, and a wide range of chess topics.

Playing in your first Tournament

Joining your first Tournament is simple. Newcomers are eligible for 4-player Guest Tournaments (3 days per move). Join via the trophy icon on the Play page or from the menubar: Play → Current Games. Each tournament gives you six games, three with each colour.

Using the ChessWorld menubar

The menubar provides access to everything on ChessWorld:

• Play: Start or check games, teams, tournaments
• Join Games: Find opponents, tournaments, teams
• My Stuff: Personal settings, statistics, subscription
• Community: Events, top player lists, annotated games
• Forums: Popular forums like Newbies, Advanced Help, Suggestions
• Videos: Instructional and master game commentaries
• Improve: Master games, glossary, learning resources
• Help: FAQs, HelpDesk, support

Using the Play page message boxes

Each game page provides two message boxes (one beside the board, one below). Use them to chat with your opponent or ask questions. Smiley icons and limited HTML formatting are supported.

Sending messages to another Member

Visit a member’s Homepage and click Leave a Message. Sent messages appear in your Outbox; copies can be saved in your personal Notepad. Please avoid offensive or inappropriate language (see Terms & Conditions).

Making sure you get all of our Emails

We use your registered email for all communications, including move notifications. Please add ChessWorld.net to your safe senders list to ensure delivery. For help, see the Email section of the FAQs.

Do you have your own website?

If you have a website, you can extend your Full Membership for free by linking to ChessWorld. Whenever a visitor from your site becomes a Full Member, you earn two free months.
