Online Chess Preferences – FAQ Guide

ChessWorld lets you customize your playing experience with a wide range of preferences: login and security, move handling, personal details, homepage content, email notifications, interface appearance, and current games management. Below are the most common questions and answers.

Q. What does the Auto-login feature do?

If enabled, you’ll be logged in automatically each time you visit ChessWorld on that computer. Avoid this option on shared or public devices to prevent unauthorized access. To disable, uncheck the option before logout or click the opt-out link on the logout page.

Q. What does the Keep feature do?

It stores your full login details in a cookie so you can log in with one click. Useful if you always use the same computer — but avoid on shared devices.

Q. Which Start page should I select?

Many members prefer the Game Board start page. Others may choose Team or Pyramid Tournament lists. You can bookmark pages but avoid old game boards that may expire.

Q. How can I configure My Moves?

You can control:

Move action: stay on board, move to next game, or game list view.
Game list ordering: by time left, player strength, moves, or game number.
Move highlighting: last move(s) visible.
Move score: multiple formats including PGN and figurine.
Move confirmation: instant preview or none.
Conditional moves: up to 5 rows, enabled/disabled.

Q. Why does the movelog look wrong or ambiguous?

If you use the *very shorthand PGN* option, moves may sometimes appear ambiguous. Use the Export game PGN button for clarity.

Q. How can I change my Country or Flag?

Update via My Stuff → My Details. Certain countries (Australia, Canada, USA) allow state/province flags too.

Q. Can I change my password?

Yes — enter and confirm a new password. Use a mix of upper/lowercase and numbers. Avoid confusing characters. Do not share passwords.

Q. What happens if I click the Email My Password link?

You’ll receive secure reset links (plain text & HTML). They expire in 24 hours. Use them to set a new password safely.

Q. Can I change my nickname?

Yes — but only within the initial period, or later via HelpDesk (every 60 days). Use only allowed characters. Offensive names may be changed by Admin.

Q. How can I add images or links to my Homepage?

Limited HTML is supported. Images must be .jpg/.gif ≤ 50k, max 300x300px. No external links. Offensive or copyrighted material is not permitted.

Q. How can I configure My Email?

You can enable/disable notifications for moves, invites, tournaments, newsletters, and more. Use * to disable notifications entirely.

Q. Can I change how ChessWorld looks?

Yes — change board size, piece style, theme colors, hyperlink underlines, pie chart display, and more via My Stuff → My Interface.

Q. How can I use the My Current Games page?

Switch between Detailed, Summary, or Position views. Sort by time left, moves, ratings, ECO codes, or game number. Use caching for faster loads. Send reminders for opponents inactive over 10 days.

Q. How can I change table highlight colors?

Choose from predefined themes or revert to default highlights under Customise Colors.
