https://www.quora.com/What-is-an-effective-Queens-pawn-opening-in-chess At the lower levels, I was apparently doing a “Cheating” video with my video showing the traps in the Queens Gambit accepted if black tried to hold onto the pawn. Apparently it created a new killer breed of Under 1400s that were smashing opponents who were higher rated. This is probably “must-know” knowledge of the Queens Gambit for players under 1400: Chess Traps #12 - Queens Gambit Accepted Traps (Play Free Online Chess) Basically on the 2nd move you play 2.c4 to pressurise black’s d5 pawn: So I guess you can consider the Queen’s “gambit” an effective Queen’s pawn opening. It is not really a “Gambit” because black usually can’t hold onto the pawn without incurring serious damage to their position. As you get above 1400 you might want particular “systems” you can play which don’t need tonnes of theory. These include: The London system (used a lot by Magnus Carlsen and Kamsky) The Torre Attack (Only 1 square more than a London system bishop, but makes a difference - Paul Georghiou assures me of this) The Trompovsky (used by multi time British Champion GM Julian Hodgson) The Colle (like london system above but with Bishop on c1) The Stonewall Attack (a great one to use for its routine capabilities like Rf3-h3-g4 etc. Cheers, K [Event "Altibox Norway"] [Site "Stavanger NOR"] [Date "2017.06.16"] [EventDate "2017.06.06"] [Round "9.4"] [Result "1-0"] [White "Vladimir Kramnik"] [Black "Anish Giri"] [ECO "D05"] [WhiteElo "2808"] [BlackElo "2771"] [PlyCount "39"] 1.
