Unlike over-the-board (OTB) chess clocks measured in minutes and hours, ChessWorld correspondence chess clocks are measured in days per move. This system is designed to provide flexibility, fairness, and enjoyment for players worldwide.
A common setting might be 10 moves in 50 days, with no more than 5 days per individual move. This gives flexibility without delaying the overall pace of the game.
Variable timing allows extra thinking time for complex positions without impeding the natural flow of the game.
Games with longer time limits may last for months rather than days. However, since Full Members can play as many concurrent games as they wish, there is always a fresh move to play on another board.
If an opponent exceeds the time limit, a Claim win button becomes available. Players may use it immediately or extend courtesy by allowing more time.
In tournaments, if neither player makes a move within a predefined period after time runs out, the game is declared void.
For more information on time control options, consult the Time Limits FAQ page in the HelpDesk section.
1-day per move is the quickest option, offering a near Blitz-like experience.
